Gma’s Community Kitchen supports asylum seekers and refugees in South London.

They are a diverse and growing group of people who have arrived in the U.K after fleeing their homes and countries for a number of reasons which include on-going  war or persecution.  The process of rebuilding life within the UK’s hostile immigration system can be very difficult… we champion human connection and hope as a source of relief. Through joyful communal activity we instill a sense of both contribution and belonging that has often been lost through displacement.

We prioritise nourishment of our community through nutritious soul-food and creativity, music & movement that inspires self expression.

  • Gma’s Family Dinners🍽️

    Bringing local asylum seekers together under one roof to share dinner together. With a hearty menu, live music and open mic, playing cards and fun for the children, this event is a welcome evening of escapism recreating the family dinner experience.

  • Cultural Excursions✨

    Creating opportunities for social integration at local and cultural experiences including ‘We Are Here’ art exhibition in Brixton curated by local CIC exploring the plight of refugees, a group excursion to Lambeth Country Show and a presence at Sup Supperclub’, Syrian Sunflower dinner.

  • Gma’s Picnics & Kickabout ☀️

    We take to Clapham Common when the sun is shining to provide a picnic for our community and a kickabout for the children. We serve hot food, refreshing beverages and cakes.

  • Comfort Meals💝

    Taking the pressure off of dinner time for those suffering from food insecurity by providing free regular access to healthy & nutritious food - in the form of free comforting ready meal boxes. We provided 720 Comfort Meals to over 10 local community groups last Winter, including a local hostel housing solo female asylum seekers.

  • The Hosh🇸🇩

    A Night of Togetherness for Sudan

    Not just another fundraiser, The Hosh was an intersectional celebration of unity within and solidarity with the Sudanese community here in London, represented by our event partner Madaniya SDG. Hosted at Jumbi Peckham, 100% ticket proceeds, £3000 was donated to grassroots organization Sudanese Legal Network who provide medical and legal aid, and whose work ensures as many families as possible are not left alone to survive ongoing hostility.

‘This organisation is small in size but it is so great in terms of goal that it cannot be described, let us not forget that only saving one person and giving them hope again is more important than any material asset.
